Blended Virtual Course
The course is a hybrid of virtual training and self-study which will be a mixture of teaching using Microsoft Teams for short bursts at the beginning of the day, then setting work for the rest of the day and then coming back at the end of the day for another on-line session for any questions before setting homework in the form of practice exams for the evening. You do not have to install Microsoft Teams, you will receive a link and can access the course using the web browser.

Requirements for the exam:

• The exam will be using Google Chrome and there is a plug-in that needs to be installed 
• You will need a laptop/PC with a camera and a microphone 
• A current ID with a picture 

Fundamentals of Testing
This section looks at the various objectives of testing, why testing is necessary, the difference between quality assurance and quality control, seven testing principles, test activities and tasks and how they fit into the test process along with the various roles and skills associated with testing.

Testing Throughout the Software Development Lifecycle 
Testing is not an island and is integrated into other development activities, this section looks at the main three Software Development LifeCycles. In some instances testing will drive development activities and Test Driven Development, Acceptance Test Driven Development and Behaviour Driven Development will be explained. DevOps and the impact on testing will be explained along with retrospectives and the concept of “shift-left”. Test levels, test types and confirmation and retesting will be expanded upon along with maintenance testing.

Static Testing 
This section focuses on the non-execution of the code and how static testing complements dynamic testing. The various review types will be described and discussed with the various roles and responsibilities associated with reviews.

Test Analysis and Design 
This section will explain how to apply four black-box techniques (equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis, decision tables and state transition testing), The following white-box techniques will be explained: statement testing and branch testing. The black-box and white-box techniques are often referred to as “systematic techniques”, experience-based techniques are referred to as non-systematic. Error guessing, exploratory testing and checklist-based testing will be expanded upon. In Agile testing, many collaborative-based test approaches are used, such as User Story writing, the creation of acceptance criteria and Acceptance Test Driven Development.

Managing the Test Activities 
This section will look at test management activities such as; test planning, test estimation, the difference between iterative and release planning, test cases prioritisation dn how the test pyramid and test quadrants can be used to direct test effort. Risk management will be explained and how that can be used to form a risk-based approach to testing. Providing timely and relevant information is a major aspect of testing and this section will look at the various ways we can monitor and control, testing and report the progress to stakeholders.

Test Tools 
This section provides an overview of the various tool categories that can support testing and the advantages and disadvantages of using tools in testing

The Exam
The ISTQB Foundation exam is a 1-hour, 40 question multiple choice exam. There is an extra 15 minutes allowed for candidates whose first language is not English. The pass mark is 65% (26/40) and there are no pre requisites to taking this exam. 
The exam is a remote proctored exam.
